Recently, Singapore's Minister of Communications and Information, Josephine Teo, announced the country's digital connectivity blueprint at an ATx event and stated plans to double the capacity of submarine cables and add three new submarine cable landing stations over the next 10 years.

According to Hong Kong's IDC New Sky Interconnect, although Singapore has a population of only 5.5 million and a land area of 733.1 square kilometers, it has 26 submarine cables, surpassing countries such as Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In addition, Singapore also plans to provide seamless end-to-end 10Gbps connectivity within its borders, allowing for widespread use of applications with data intensive operations or extensive use of artificial intelligence.

However, in recent years, due to a sudden increase in demand, data centers and power resources in Singapore have become very tight. Many data center companies have shifted their focus to neighboring Malaysia to cooperate with the local government in establishing local power grids and data center parks.

At present, there are another 14 submarine cables about to land in Singapore, including an Echo submarine cable directly connected to the United States.

At the ATx event, the Singapore Information and Communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) also introduced a new sustainable standard for tropical data centers, which has been tested at Digital Realty's facilities in Singapore. At present, the official has not provided more details about the standard, only suggesting that tropical data centers need to operate at temperatures higher than 22 ℃, which is also higher than the temperature control standards commonly used in data centers today.
